How Long Can Weed Clones Last

People often ask us here at Big Daddy Clones, how long can are you able to keep clones? The answer to that question varies based on the climate that you live in, as well as how you choose to store your clones.

If you’re planning on buying clones and you are curious how long you are going to be able to keep them, continue reading to find out more.

Using the Subcool Method

You can easily keep unrooted clones for up to three months if you use the subcooling method, which is placing them in the fridge. To do this, you will need a Ziploc bag and a crisper drawer to create stability. In order to maintain longevity in the fridge, you should open the bag with your clone in it at least once or twice per week.

If you keep your cuttings in the refrigerator, they will root much faster compared to non-refrigerated cuttings using the conventional method. Once you remove your cuttings from your refrigerator and out of the coolness, they will retain for up to two or three weeks. At this time, you will want to root your cuttings or you may end up losing them.

You will also want to make sure to recut your stem before you root your cutting.

Keeping your clones in the fridge is not only a great way to store them away, but it is also a great way to make sure that you have backup clones in case anything bad ever happens to your original cuttings.

Place In Ziploc

Take your cuttings and place them in a Ziploc bag (you can also decide to go with Tupperware). Make sure that there is enough water in your Ziploc bag so that the stems of your clones remain submerged. High-quality tap water should be just fine. We recommend going with an inch or two at the bottom of the bag.

Also, make sure that there is some air in the bag too so that the leaves don’t get crushed.

Replace Your Water

Replace the water in the bag at least once per week.

Prep Your Clones For Rooting

When it is finally time to plant your clones, remove them from your refrigerator and allow the stems to sit within a glass of water for about an hour. Once time is up, cut about an inch off the bottom of the stem and root it.
